On text messages we keep…

Patsey’s regimen to brighten a cloudy day: zone out with earphones, eat to her palate’s contentment, jog till your lungs (or heart, as we learned in Physio) give up, look at pictures, or the easiest and most handy method: look at saved text messages.

I’m sure most of us save (or postpone deleting) messages in our cellphones for various reasons: sobrang nakakakilig, such that reading them again and again makes us re-feel the emotion we felt upon receiving them; at one point in time our hearts were weary, then here comes a message from a friend that uplifts our spirits; they remind us of an unforgettable event that should forever be catalogued in our minds; usernames and passwords we take note of; and so on.

I’m a sentimental freak of nature, and my Nokia 3100 boasts of messages from the past 2 years that i’ve decided not to erase (which is the main reason why i cannot bear to part with this phone of mine). These saved messages are contained in folders, as follows: Thoughts (my own, stolen ones from friends and books)… Brighten Ur Day (messages that make me smile or laugh out loud when i read them again)… Unforgettables (heart-wrenching or life-changing events)… Sweet Thangs (similar to Brighten Ur Day but with more serious content), and Chronicles (unforgettable messages from a certain Someone).

I’d like to share some messages from my Thoughts folder (siyempre hindi pwede yung sa iba, kakahiya!), for us to ponder on, and maybe brighten your day as well.

From my good friend Hugs:

Hugs_and_gracie

- The only things we regret are the risks we didn’t take.

- The only time we waste is the time we spend thinking we are alone.

- "Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity."

From my NFF (you know who you are… i miss talking to you about just-about-anything. I hope you’re happy. At sana kayo na!! Hehe) –> "Bad experiences in past relationships serve to teach us how to appreciate the right one when it comes along".

From my blockmate with the best butt in town, Sharolle (You guys may have received this fwd at one time in your life): Cutie

–> New day, new blessings… Don’t let yesterday’s failures ruin the beauty of today. Coz each day has its own promise of love, forgiveness, joy, and success.

From my batchmate Aldolase, who has been sending me inspirational thingamajigs while reviewing for the boards: Alduz

"God makes life a little rocky… Not to grind you into dust, but to polish you into a different gem." –> This one has gotten me through several emotionally taxing days. Thanks Alduz!

The following thoughts came from coasters (yata) with quotes written on them, courtesy of A Different Bookstore (Eastwood):

–> "One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star." - Nietzsche

–> "Some stories do not have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what’s going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity…" - Gilda Radner

Konti na lang…

These ones came from books i leafed through:

–> If you don’t know what you want, you end up with a lot you don’t." - Fight Club, page 46

–> "For every evil there are two remedies: time and silence". - The Count of Monte Cristo, page 198

–> I accidentally erased one message containing 12 ways to not let your past run your future (from Bo Sanchez’s new book). If you’re interested, check it out at any NBS or Powerbooks branch. It’s not hardcore religious, trust me.

Whew!

Anyway, I’m driving at something: Tough times lay ahead. But we don’t have to be — or feel — alone through these. We have friends. And we have a lot of nuances around us (no matter how mundane) which can get us through; it’s just a matter of perspective and our capacity to appreciate them.

Care to share some of those saved messages? Post a comment! Pleez! :)

Hi pats!:) Here’s a bittersweet favorite from my quotes folder: “Sometimes when you sacrifice something precious, you’re not really losing it. You’re just passing it on to someone else.”

Hey Pats! I’m becoming a fan of your blog! Here’s one that got me through some tough times. Kinda cheesy and long but I love it. “Hang in there… and take care to see that you don’t lose sight of the one thing that is constant, beautiful, and true: Everything will be fine - and it will turn out that way because of the special kind of person you are.
So… beginning today and lasting a lifetime through - hang in there, and don’t be afraid to feel like the morning sun is shining… just for you.” - Douglas Pagels

During internship, whenever I had a bad day, this played over and over in my head:
“Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming.” - Finding Nemo :)

i wrote this in my page too.. but i just wanted to share it with you..

Most of us miss out on life’s big prizes..

The Pulitzer. The Nobel. The Oscars. The Tonys. TOYMs.

But we are all eligible for life’s small pleasures.

A pat on the back. A good word. A hug. A full moon. A glorious sunset. An empty parking space. A great meal. Hot soup. A cold drink. Sweet mangoes. Hot pandesal. Choc nut..

Don’t fret about copping life’s grand rewards.

    Enjoy its tiny delights.

There’s plenty for all of us! =)

My cellphone always says…”No network service”….i’m trying to figure out the hidden message on this thing but i can’t seem to figure it out. I’m so mystified…..i love this particular article…its very light and simple….something that can warm u up from the inside(besides scotch)…but all i can share is this stupid…”No Network Service” in my cell….anyone know what wisdom this holds?

  8. Carlo Jose Says:

It means you need to look deep inside you, find your inner light, bring forth mighty thunder, and switch to a better cellphone service provider… like Smart. Hehehe…

  9. Pats Says:

I know you liked this, so I decided to post this here…

“God is so big, He can cover the world with love. So small, He can stay inside your heart. So wise, He knows all your desires but grands only what’s best for you…”

hi ate. this is a nice one..
“I’ve realized that life is indeed full of contradictions. Sometimes it’s crazy to be sane, you need to fall to fly, people suffer because your care.. You have to unlearn to know the lesson, you have to give up because you’re strong, you have to be wrong to make things right.. Nonetheless, life’s complexities are also life’s source of beauty. We should cry to laugh again, fall apart to be whole again, and get hurt to love again.” -DP
